Power of Attorney

General and special powers of attorney drafted for property, banking, litigation and NRI matters.

A power of attorney authorises another person to act on your behalf — to manage property, sign documents, appear before authorities or conduct a case. It can be general, covering a range of acts, or special, limited to a particular transaction.

Because an attorney can bind the principal, the powers should be defined precisely. Powers of attorney relating to immovable property are usually registered, and documents signed abroad must be notarised or attested there and stamped within the time allowed after they are received in India. The chambers drafts and reviews powers of attorney and assists with registration and revocation.

Frequently asked questions

By executing a deed of revocation, informing the attorney and anyone dealing with them, and — where the original was registered — registering the revocation as well.

The information on this page is general in nature and is not legal advice. Stamp duty, fees and requirements are set by the authorities and can change; they are confirmed for each matter.
